Jennifer Nelson, MA

Psychology Extern

Jennifer Nelson (she/her/hers) is a clinical psychology doctoral student at Appalachian State University. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel hill and her master’s degree in psychology from Pepperdine University. Her clinical training and professional interests center on the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related anxiety conditions. Jennifer has received specialized training in exposure and response prevention (ERP), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and other cognitive behavioral approaches, with a strong emphasis on compassionate, evidenced-based care for individuals living with OCD. Before joining Capital OCD & Anxiety Practice, Jennfier worked as the OCD Intensive Outpatient Program Manager and provided therapy at Gensee Valley Psychology in Rochester, NY, where she worked primarily with individuals experiencing OCD and trauma-related symptoms. She also brings experiences conducting diagnostic assessment and therapy in community and outpatient settings. In addition to her clinical work, Jennifer serves as a Graduate Research Assistant, contributing research on the overlap of ADHD and obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, including hoarding. Jennifer is passionate about increasing access to effective, compassionate treatment for OCD and supporting clients in facing fears, breaking free from compulsions, and living value-driven lives.
